I think most people don’t yet comprehend just how far reaching the damage from striking down Roe will be for the country. The obvious harm to women is bad enough, but “fighting battles that were hashed out by previous generations” will indeed consume time and resources that would be better used coming to grip with real threats to our present and future.
Of course, it’s obvious that distracting voters with appeals to their various grievances has long been a winning strategy for Republicans. That way they don’t have to do the hard work of dealing with difficult and complex challenges like climate change, crumbling infrastructure, shifting international alliances or a host of other thankless tasks.
Instead Roe offers conservatives a new treasure trove of distractions. I don’t think they’ll be able to resist attacking every other freedom that is now up for debate -- again.
